     The main directions of activities in the State Stende Plant Breeding station are as follows.
Research :
         maintenance of cereal crop gene bank,
         developing varieties of cereal crops,
         elaboration of field crop breeding technologies.
Field crop varieties maintenance, breeder seed and pre-basic seed production.
Summarizing and disseminating information obtained at the result of research.

      The State has entrusted the station with the following tasks:
develop and maintain varieties of cereal crops suitable to Latvian agro ecological conditions and definite kind of use;
elaborate and improve field crop breeding technologies encouraging production of competitive agricultural output friendly to environment;
maintain, investigate and preserve cereal crops gene bank in Latvia;
obtain, summarize and present objective information as a result of research on rural and agriculture developmental processes in Latvia;
ensure performance of those international obligations envisaged by the regulations of the republic of Latvia.

     There are 155 ha of the state land at the disposal of the station providing work for about 50 persons.

     Researchers of the State Stende Plant Breeding station are participating in several research projects funded by the state, fulfilling project on the maintenance of cereal crop genetic resources and breeder seed preparation ordered by the Ministry of Agriculture as well as carrying out demonstration research ordered by the state, agricultural companies and other institutions.
