LABORATORY OF GRAIN TECHNOLOGY AND AGROCHEMICAL RESEARCH

Information:

The first laboratory for agrochemical research was founded in 1923. In research it was particularly actively involved in 60ies-70ies when extended research in crop management was conducted. With the aim of estimating bread-making quality of wheat, Laboratory of Grain technology started its work from 1927. The World War II stopped its activities and wheat and rye quality estimation in Stende was resumed after 1990. In 1930ies much was done in flax breeding resulting in the establishment of the Laboratory of Flax Processing Technology.

The laboratory of Grain technology and agrochemical research is doing analyses both for the needs of research and farmers and other interested persons. laboratorija To answer for quality, since 1998 the laboratory has been annually certified allowing doing analysis and presenting certificate in 14 kinds of analyses for six cereal crops. The laboratory is doing the following:
Total nitrogen and crude protein determination in grain and forage.
Dry matter and crude ash determination in plant products,
Determination of falling number, sedimentation value, gluten quality and content in wheat and rye grain and flour.

Soil agrochemical parameters are determined in the laboratory:
pH,
hydrolytic acidity,
organic matter content,
phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium content

Laboratory has got the following latest equipment for:
Zeleny index determination (determination of sedimentation value in grain) - in the year 2003;
- grain analyser for quality estimation of a small grain sample - in the year 2005

Persons responsible for the work of the laboratory:
Viktorija Miglane, chemist, head of the laboratory
Larisa Brice, laboratory assistant
